EMMITSBURG, Md. - Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) won
two individual events and sealed the meet victory by swimming the
opening leg of the final relay to lead Mount St. Mary's past
Manhattan, Saint Peter's and VMI on Friday. The defeated the
Jaspers 132-63, the Peahens 105-93 and the Keydets 134-42.
Coppler swam the opening leg of the 200-free relay before
Victoria Shaw (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), Courtney Griffith
(Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Joanna Hale (Voorhees,
N.J./Eastern) wrapped up the event with a team and pool-record time
of 1:55:03 to seal the meet victory.
Coppler also won the 1500 free (18:05.93) in pool record fashion
while also setting a team record in the 400 and 800 free during the
race. The freshman won the 100 free (1:01.36) on the evening.
Patricia Yam (Placenta, Calif./Rosary) was also a double winner
at the meet after winning the 200 free (2:15.83) and the 100 fly
(1:07.73). Hale won the 50 free (28:86).
Griffith set a new team standard in the 100 back (1:09.88) and
the 400 IM (5:20.82) after finishing second in both events while
Shaw placed second in the 400 free (5:07.13).
Emily Dargay (Colver, Pa./Central Cambria) finished third in the
1500 free (22:53.25), Murphy Alafoginis (Lawrenceville,
Pa./Wellsboro Area) was third in the 200 free (2:26.20) while
Mollie Walsh (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) placed third
in the 100 fly (1:09.18) and fourth in the 100 breast
(1:27.01).
Walsh, Molly Kristiniak (Oreland, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy),
Yam and Hale finished second in the 400-medley relay (4:48.21).
Dargay (400 free), Jess Gardner (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins
Mill) (50 free), Nicole Helmick (100 free), Kristiniak (100 breast)
finished as the Mount's second swimmer in their respective events
to give the squad depth points that led the Mountaineers to the
three wins in the meet.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action against Manhattan, Saint
Peter's and VMI at home on Saturday. Events start at 12 p.m.
