Wheeler Sets New Mount Division I Single-Season Goal Mark With Game-Winner In 1-0 Win Against Robert Morris

EMMITSBURG, Md. -Junior Chris Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) scored in the 27th minute to lead Mount St. Mary's past Robert Morris 1-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Friday.

Freshman Patrick Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) hit a long ball to senior Eric Detzel (York, Pa./Central York), who hit a shot off the right post before Wheeler knocked home the decisive goal at the 26:47 mark.

It was the elder Wheeler's 13th goal of the year to establish a new Mount Division I record for goals in a season. Chris Wheeler has three goals in his last two games while Patrick Wheeler has dished out three assists in his last two matches. Detzel notched his team-leading eighth assist of the year and has a goal and two assists in his last two contests.

Chris Davis (Townsville, Australia/Kirwan State) made two saves for the Mount (7-9-0, 4-4-0 NEC) in his fifth shutout of the season and now has 17 shutouts in his career.

Toba Bolaji made two stops for the Colonials (8-6-2, 4-2-2 NEC) in the loss.

Mount St. Mary's scored in the first half and held on to earn its second-straight win on the year and extend its unbeaten streak to five games against Robert Morris.

The Colonials had seven shots in the game, but only two on goal. Davis stopped Matt Griffin at the 23:34 mark in the first half and Tyler Solis at 87:33 to preserve the shutout.

Detzel moved into sixth place on the program's all-time career assist list with 17 helpers and became the fifth player in Mount Division I history to record 50 points in a career.

The Mount returns to action on Monday at Saint Francis (Pa.). Match time is 2:30 p.m.
