The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team closed out the fall season by splitting its final two matches. The Mountaineers cruised to a 7-0 win over Rider on Sunday afternoon after falling to Northeast Conference rival Saint Francis (Pa.), 5-2, on Saturday night.

The Mount swept the three doubles matches to take the doubles point in the win over Rider. Matthew Blake and Taylor Place earned an 8-4 win over Drew Laverty and Ryan Carpenter at No. 1 doubles. Mike Salomon and Mike Zabetakis earned a win at No. 2 doubles while Patrick Plastow and Andrew Marinucci won at the No. 3 spot.

In singles play, Blake was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Rollie Malfitano at the No. 1 singles spot. Salomon blanked Milo Milosovici, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles while Zabetakis cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Place won by the same 6-0, 6-1 score at No. 4 singles while Plastow and Marinucci posted 6-2, 6-0 wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

On Saturday, the Mount was clipped by Saint Francis (Pa.), 5-2. The Red Flash edged the Mount for the doubles point by taking two of the three matches. Blake and Place lost to Elahn Pogue and Nate Fleming, 9-8 (12-10) in a hard-fought match at No. 1 doubles. Salomon and Zabetakis were clipped at No. 2 doubles, 8-4, by Steve Kowalski and Steve Robinson while Marinucci and Plastow edged Andres Rosa and Peter Dietrich, 9-7, at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Blake was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 1 singles while Zabetakis took home a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3. The Red Flash, however, captured the other four matches to take the match.
