LORETTO, Pa. - Saint Francis (Pa.) defeated Mount St. Mary's
115-79 in women's swimming action on Saturday. Freshman Cat Coppler
(Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) paced the Mount with two victories on
the afternoon.
Coppler won the 50 free (25:73) and 100 free (55.47) to continue
her impressive start to her freshman year. The freshman and
sophomore teammate Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster)
became the first Mount swimmers to earn Northeast Conference
Swimmers of the Week honors in program history for the first week
of the season after leading the Mountaineers to five victories at
the Bloomsburg Relays on Oct. 9.
Griffith also produced a nice afternoon after placing third in
the 1000 free (11:19.58) before winning the 100 fly (59:53).
Freshman Mollie Walsh (Haverton, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll)
posted third-place finishes in the 400 IM (5:04.02) and the 100
back (1:04.95). Walsh (1:19.17), Molly Kristiniak (Oreland,
Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) (1:20.26) and Jess Boegner (White Hall,
Md./North Harford) (1:27.88) also finished 1-2-3 in the 100 breast
while Patricia Yam (Plancenta, Calif./Rosary) was third in the 100
fly (1:01.71).
Coppler, Courtney Gaddi (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good
Counsel), Griffith and Yam wrapped up the meet with a win in the
800 free (8:19.85).
Mount St. Mary's returns to action when the squad opens up its
home slate on Friday against Manhattan, Saint Peter's and VMI.
