Sports Information Intern Will Holland recently interviewed
men's soccer junior forward Scott Phinith who had two assists in
the Mount's win over VMI Tuesday afternoon.
What are some personal goals you've set for
yourself?
I set high goals and high expectations for myself this
year. I would like to score in double digits this year, but mostly
I want to be one of the most dangerous players going to goal in the
conference.
What are some things you have worked on over the offseason
to help you this year?
I worked on my quickness and explosiveness in the offseason. I ran
hills to hopefully allow me to have a quicker first step than my
defender.
Do you feel as if you are more prepared this year as
opposed to last year?
I definitely feel more prepared this year when compared to last
year. I came into camp in much better form than last year.
What do you expect from the incoming freshmen this
year?
I expect big things out of our freshmen this year. Like every year,
I was skeptical about the freshmen when we first began. However,
after I played with them I learned that this freshman class is
extremely talented and skillful. I expect a lot out our freshmen,
and I'm sure that they will live up to all of our expectations.
They have already exceeded my expectations up to this point.
What are some of the team goals this season?
After our accomplishments last season, we would really like to make
it back to the NEC championship. We also hope to win the NEC
regular season. I think that we have a solid chance to achieve one
of these goals this year if we can stay focused and injury
free.
What things are you as well as your team looking to improve
on from last season?
One improvement that we hope to accomplish is better
results on the road. Last year we struggled towards the end of the
season at our away games. This year we have a majority of away
games so we want to improve on our performances on the road.
Do you have any pregame rituals?
I like to listen to R&B and slow jams in the few hours before
games. It calms me down and keeps me from getting too anxious and
nervous. I also watch soccer highlights to give me some inspiration
and ideas for the game.
What game are you most looking forward to this
season?
I am looking forward to our game against Long Island on Oct. 9,
because it is our first home night game. I'm also looking forward
to playing UMBC because one of my very good friends and former
teammate is on the team.
What are your favorite television shows?
Family Guy, The Office, Entourage, and any sports that are on
tv.
What is your favorite color?
Any shade or hue of blue.
What kind music do you listen to before a game?
In the locker room I get hyped by listening to a lot of
hip hop including Jay-Z, Gucci Mane, Wale, Cam'Ron and of course
Lil Wayne.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to listen to and record music in my free time, as
well as play video games and roam around campus. When I have enough
time, I like to go home and spend time with my family who I love to
death for supporting me to the fullest.
