FARMVILLE, Va. - Dan Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph)
finished 26th to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a
sixth-place standing through the second round at the Longwood/Manor
Intercollegiate on Monday. The 13-team field competed in two rounds
on the afternoon.
Michalek posted a 75 in the first round and then registered a 78
in the second round to sit in 26th place with a two-round score of
153, 12 strokes behind the current leader.
Brad Gerick (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) (33rd place, 156),
Sage Smith (Denver, Colo./Brophy) (38th place, 157), Nick Tornetta
(Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) (48th place, 161) and Brandon
Powers (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) (59th place, 166) also competed for
the Mount. Tornetta is making his collegiate debut in the
event.
Gardner-Webb leads the competition after two rounds with a score
of 581, four strokes ahead of Longwood (585) while Loyola (599),
George Mason (613) and High Point (624) round out the top-5 teams.
Mount St. Mary's is right being the Panthers after posting a 312 in
the first round and a 315 in the second round for a total of
627.
The Mount returns to action on Tuesday in the final round of the
Longwood/Manor Intercollegiate.
