CHAMPIONSGATE,
Fla. – Jeff Kingsbury (North Beach, Md./Northern) finished
tied for eighth after the first round of the Northeast Conference
(NEC) Men's Golf Championships to help Mount St. Mary's to a
fifth-place standing on Friday.
Kingsbury,
who missed the Top-10 last year by one stroke, posted an even round
of 72 on the afternoon with 35 on the front nine and a 37 on the
back nine to sit four strokes from the current leader.
Brad
Gerick (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) sits two strokes behind
Kingsbury with a 74 to finish the first day in 11th place. John
Rosecrans (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) (28th place, 78), Sage Smith
(Denver, Colo./Brophy) (37th place, 81) and Justin Nogay (Silver
Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep) (47th place, 84) also competed for the
Mount.
Long
Island leads the event with a score of 292, three strokes ahead of
defending champion Sacred Heart (295) while St. Francis (Pa.)
(299), Monmouth (302), the Mount (305), Robert Morris (306),
Central Connecticut State (306), Fairleigh Dickinson (313),
Quinnipiac (323), Wagner (337) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (341) rounded
out the 11-team field. Bryant players are also competing in the
championships, but they participating as individuals.
Mount St.
Mary's returns to action on Saturday at the NEC Championships. Tee
time is 8 a.m.
