SAVANNAH,
Ga. Steve Crain (Wellsville, Pa./Northern York) and Sage
Smith (Denver, Colo./Brophy) finished tied for 29th in the first
round of the Lonnie Barton Invitational hosted by Long Island to
lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a 10th-place standing
on Monday.
In the
first event in the spring for the Mount, Crain posted a 42 in the
front nine and a 41 on the final nine holes while Smith opened up
with a 38 in the first nine holes and a 45 on the back nine for a
total of 83, 13 strokes behind the leader.
Brandon
Powers (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) (39th place, 85), Jake Wetzel (Blue
Ridge Summit, Pa./Waynesboro Area) (50th place, 90) and Jeff
Kingsbury (North Beach, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (51st place, 93)
rounded out the Mountaineer's competitors.
Longwood
leads the two-day event with a score of 303, three strokes ahead of
Miami (Ohio) (306) while Towson (310), Siena (315) and Long Island
(316) rounded out the Top-5 teams. Mount St. Mary's sits in 10th
place after carding a 341 in the first round.
The Mount
returns to action in the second round of the Lonnie Barton
Invitational on Tuesday.
