LAKEWOOD,
N.J. Justin Nogay (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep)
finished seventh to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a
seventh-place standing at the fourth annual Monmouth Invitational
on Sunday.
Nogay
posted the squad's top finish of 2008-09 with a seventh-place
standing. The freshman posted a 77 in the first round and then a 72
in the second round to notch the squad's second-best two-round
total this season, 10 strokes behind the medalist.
Steve
Crain (Wellsville, Pa./Northern York) (26th place, 157), Brad
Gerick (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) (32nd place, 158), Tim
Evelius (Westminster, Md./Westminster) (35th place, 159) and
Brandon Powers (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) (37th place, 161) also
competed for the Mount in the two-day event. Gerick recorded a
team-best 71 in the second to tie the squad's single-round low for
the year.
Mount
St. Mary's posted a 323 in the first round and a 295 in the second
round to finish with a score of 618. It was the squad's second-best
two-round score this season after the team registered a 602 in the
first two rounds of the Manor Invitational on Sept. 9 while the 295
in the second round marked the third time this season the
Mountaineers have posted a round under 300.
Sacred
Heart won the event with a score of 590, one stroke ahead of
Lafayette while Bucknell (602), Fairleigh Dickinson (608) and
Monmouth (609) rounded out the Top-5 teams.
Mount
St. Mary's returns to action at the Lafayette Invitational on
Saturday.
