STANTON, Del. - Sage Smith (Denver, Colo./Brophy) finished 16th
to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf to an eighth-place standing
after the first round at the Scotty Duncan Memorial on Sunday.
Smith, who has posted two top-10 finishes to start the season,
registered a 38 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine to
finish the first round with a 78 in 16th place, five strokes behind
the current leaders.
Dan Michakek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (24th place,
80), Jeff Kingsbury (North Beach, Md./Northern) (33rd place, 81),
Brad Gerick (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) (51st place, 84) and
Andrew Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (68th place, 87)
also competed for the Mount.
Delaware leads its own invitational with a score of 304, three
strokes ahead of George Washington (307) while Rutgers (314), Iona
(315) and Lehigh (317) round out the top-5 teams. The Mountaineers
sit in eighth place with a total of 323 after the first round.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action in the final round of the
Scotty Duncan Memorial on Monday.
