SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Ian Hendrie (Potomac, Md./St. Andrew's
Episcopal School) scored in the 67th minute to lead Mount St.
Mary's past Bryant 2-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer
action on Sunday.
Hendrie broke a 1-all standstill when he found the twine in the
67th minute for the game-winning goal. It was the sophomore's third
tally of the year and first since he scored against Loyola on Sept.
4.
Chris Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) notched
his fourth goal of the year for the Mount (3-9-0, 2-3-0 NEC) while
Eric Mullins (Finksburg, Md./Mount St. Joseph) posted an assist in
the winning effort.
Taylor Sabo scored off a Sean Kaukus assist for the Bulldogs
(3-11-0, 1-5-0 NEC) while Victor Tutino made five saves in the
loss.
Mount St. Mary's rallied from a 1-0 deficit to score the final
two goals of the match and hold on for the victory in the
first-ever meeting against Bryant.
After a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard
first after Sabo found the twine off a Kaukus assist at the 51:14
for a 1-0 edge.
The Mountaineers answered two minutes and 10 seconds later when
Wheeler scored off a Mullins helper at 53:24 to even the contest at
1-all.
Hendrie then found the twine when he scored off a rebound in
front of the pipes at 66:16 for the decisive score. The Bulldogs
had four corner kicks the rest of the way, but did not register a
shot on goal in the final 33 minutes and 44 seconds of the
game.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Friday at Waldron Family
Stadium against Saint Francis (Pa.). Game time is 4 p.m.
