opening tee... The men's golf team heads to
Western Pennsylvania to participate in Northeast Conference rival
Robert Morris' Holiday Inn Pittsburgh Airport Colonials Golf
Classic on Monday and Tuesday. It will be the second-straight
season the squad will compete in the Colonials' home event.
last time at that event... Brandon Powers
finished 19th to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a
10th-place standing after the first round at the Holiday Inn
Pittsburgh Airport Colonial Golf Classic on Oct. 14, 2008. Powers
carded a 77 on the first day and a 78 in the final round for a
two-round total of 155 to place 19th, 10 strokes behind the
medalist. Jeff Kingsbury (41st place, 162), Ray Hyre (41st place,
162), Steve Crain (46th place, 165) and Danny Michalek (46th place,
165) rounded out the Mount's competitors. The Mount carded a 319 in
the first round and a 322 in the final round to finish in 10th
place with a total of 641. The invitational was played at the
Montour Heights Country Club, which was voted as one of the 50
toughest courses in the United States by Golf Digest in
2007.
last time out... Jeff Kingsbury finished 36th
to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to an 11th-place
standing at the Scotty Duncan Memorial on Oct. 5. Kingsbury posted
an 81 in the first and second round to card a 162 in the two days
to place 36th, 17 strokes behind the medalist. Brad Gerick (39th
place, 163), Sage Smith (47th place, 165), Dan Michalek (53rd
place, 166) and Andrew Lawton (69th place, 174) also competed for
the Mount. The Mountaineers finished in 11th place after posting a
323 in the first round and a 333 in the final round for a total of
656.

following the coaches footsteps... Sage Smith
and Brad Gerick finished 3-4 at the Rutgers Invitational on Sept.
12, marking the first time since Kevin Farrell and Justin Sick
finished tied for third at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational in the
fall of 2006. Farrell and Sick were honored by the Northeast
Conference as the co-Golfers of the Week.
nec statements... In each of the last five
years, the Mount has posted a Top-11 finisher in the NEC
Championships. Andrew Hill accomplished the feat in 2004-05, Jordan
Bertoglio did it in 2005-06 and Kevin Farrell earned the
recognition in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Farrell became the fifth Mount
golfer to repeat All-NEC honors. The Mount has had 13 players earn
All-NEC recognition in program history and 18 times a player
received the nod. Last year, senior Brad Gerick earned
All-Tournament honors after finishing in 11th place.
new to the mountain... Along with first-year
head coach Kevin Farrell, freshmen Andrew Lawton and Nick Tornetta
join the team in 2009-10.
about coach farrell: Kevin Farrell enters his
first season as the men's golf coach at Mount St. Mary's. Farrell
served as an assistant coach last season and also helped out at the
Quail Valley Golf Course. The 2008 graduate at the Mount, earned
All-NEC honors in 2007 and 2008 after finishing eighth at the NEC
Championships in each tournament.
