EMMITSBURG,
Md. Jeanne Marie Benedetti (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good
Counsel) won two events to lead Mount St. Mary's to three wins on
Saturday at the Mount St. Mary's Swimming Pool. The Mount defeated
Howard 93-58, St. Peter's 116-74 and VMI 118-20.
Benedetti
won the 1500 free with a school and facility-record time of
19:37.99 and also won the 400 free with a time of
4:46.85.
Paige
Chenet (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) won the 200 free (2:15.99) and
placed second in the 400 free (4:47.15). Heather Kurtzman (Bel Air,
Md./Bel Air) won the 400 IM (5:35.21) and finished second in the
200 back (2:36.87). Maggie O'Connell (Hagerstown, Md.) was also
victorious individually on the afternoon after taking the 200 fly
(2:37.52) and finished second. O'Connell also swam the third leg of
the winning 400-medley relay (4:50.61) while Eileen Coyne
(Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) and Mary Beth Kasda
(Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) swam the first two legs and Kelsey Albright
(Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) finished the winning
relay.
Courtney
Gaddi (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) finished second
in the 50 free (28.58) and in the 100 free (1:01.47) to set team
records in both events. Eileen McHenry (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton
Area) finished second in the 1500 free (20:37.42) and Albright was
third in the 100 free (1:01.74).
Chenet,
Benedetti, Gaddi and Albright set a school record with a time of
4:13.66 in an exhibition run in the 400-free relay.
Mount
St. Mary's returns to action at the Northeast Conference Swimming
& Diving Championships on Feb. 12-14.
