HERSEY, Pa.
– Kevin Farrell (Lemoyne, Pa./Trinity) moved up into eighth
place and Jeff Kingsbury (North Beach, Md./Northern) sits in
10th place to lead Mount St. Mary's to its best
two-round total at the Northeast Conference Men's Golf
Championships on Saturday. The Mount goes into the final round in
fifth place after carding a 594.
Farrell has
posted two of the Top-10 scores in program history at the league
championships and sits in good position to earn his second-straight
All-NEC honors. Farrell carded a 73 (eighth-best in team history)
in the first round and a 72 (fifth-best in program history) in the
second round to jump into eighth place with program-record
two-round total of 145, five strokes behind the current
leaders.
Kingsbury, who
opened the second day as the leader after shooting an NEC
Tournament program-record 69 on Friday, registered a 77 in the
second round to post a two-day score of 146 to still remain in the
Top-10 in the 10th spot. The 147 is the fourth-best
two-round total by a Mount player in the NEC Tournament.
Sacred Heart
leads the competition with a score of 577, 12 strokes ahead of
Robert Morris (589) while Central Connecticut State (593), Monmouth
(593), Mount St. Mary's (594), Long Island (599), Fairleigh
Dickinson (603), Saint Francis (Pa.) (607), Quinnipiac (611),
Wagner (657) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (686) rounded out the competing
teams. The Mount's score of 594 is the best two-round mark at the
league championships, surpassing the 608 mark set in 1998 and
2007.
Along with
Farrell and Kingsbury, Justin Sick (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto)
notched the fourth Top-10 performance in program history at the NEC
Championships after posting the third-best mark with a 71 in the
second round to finish the two days with a 150 in 19th
place, five strokes away from earning all conference. Jake Wetzel
(Blue Ridge Summit, Pa./Waynesboro Area) (32ns place, 155) and Sage
Smith (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy) (38th place, 158)
rounded out the Mount's participants.
Mount St.
Mary's wraps up the Northeast Conference Championships on Sunday at
the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.
