NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Maggie O'Connell
(Hagerstown, Md.) notched her second eighth-place finish at the
Northeast Conference Swimming And Diving Championships to lead
Mount St. Mary's to a fifth-place standing at the three-day
competition on Saturday.
Central Connecticut State won the
championship with a total of 649.5 while Saint Francis (Pa.) (457),
Wagner (436.5), Sacred Heart (436.5), the Mount (132) and St.
Francis (N.Y.) also participated in the event.
O'Connell, who posted an eighth-place
finish in the 100 fly on Friday, finished eighth in the 200 fly
with a time of 2:20.73. The sophomore has recorded three Top-8
finishes in her two trips to the NEC Championships.
Jeanne Marie Benedetti (Olney, Md./Our
Lady of Good Counsel), Kate Ansman (Long Island, N.Y./Sachem East),
Elise Radziwill (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) and Paige Chenet
(Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) finished fifth in the 400-free relay.
Benedetti also placed 12th in the 1650 free (18:23.55) while Ansman
was 15th in the 200 back (2:27.37) and Chenet finished 15th in the
100 free (57.01).
Heather Kurtzman (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air)
finished 12th in the 200 back (2:21.02) while Eileen Coyne
(Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) finished right behind
Ansman after she won the "C" Final in the 200 back (2:19.05) to
place 13th overall. Mary Beth Kasda (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg)
recorded a 12th-place standing in the 200 breast (2:40.18).
Mount St. Mary's finished its second
season in program history with a team record five wins.
