STANTON,
Del. Freshman Danny Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St.
Joesph) finished ninth to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team
to a fourth-place standing after the first round of the Scotty
Duncan Memorial on Saturday.
Making
his collegiate debut in the event, Michalek carded a pair of 37's
on each half of the golf course to end the first round with a 74,
four strokes behind the three players currently holding the lead
with a round of 70.
Jeff
Kingsbury (North Beach, Md./Northern) posted a 75 to sit in 13th
place and Steve Crain (Wellsville, Pa./Northern York) also ranks in
the Top-20 and one stroke behind Kingsbury in 20th place. Ray Hyre
(Bowie, Md./Bowie) (45th place, 79) and Alex Mabin (Bismarck,
N.D./Bismarck) (73rd place, 86) also competed for the
Mount.
Seton
Hall leads the two-day competition with a score of 288, three
strokes ahead of host Delaware (291) while Drexel (301), the Mount
(304) and Rutgers (304) round out the Top-5 teams in the 16-team
field.
Mount
St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday in the final round of the
Scotty Duncan Memorial.
