LITTLESTOWN,
Pa. Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) finished in seventh place to
lead the Mount St. Mary's men' golf team to a seventh-place
standing after the first round of the Mount St. Mary's Fall Classic
on Monday.
Hyre, who
finished fourth at the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational in
April, continued his success on the Mount's home course after
finishing with a round of 72 in seventh place, four strokes behind
the current leader.
Jeff
Kingsbury (North Beach, Md./Northern) (20th place, 77), Sage Smith
(Denver, Colo./Brophy) (29th place, 79), Alex Mabin (Bismarck,
N.D./Bismarck) (38th place, 79) and Brandon Powers (Bel Air,
Md./Bel Air) (53rd place, 88) rounded out the Mount's "A" team
competitors.
Jake
Wetzel (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area) paced the Mountaineers "B"
team with a 75 to sit in 13th place. Dan Michalek (Mount Airy,
Md./Mount St. Joesph) (24th place, 78), Justin Nogay (Silver
Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep) (24th place, 78), Brad Gerick
(Pylesville, Md./North Harford) (45th place, 85) and Tim Evelius
(Westminster, Md./Westminster) (45th place, 85) also participated
for the "B"
team.
Jordan
Bertoglio (Orange, Calif./Servite) (45th place, 85) participated as
an individual in the event. Nogay made his collegiate debut in the
event while Bertoglio, Evelius and Gerick saw their first action in
2008-09.
Four of
the Top-5 teams after the first round are from the Northeast
Conference with Long Island leading the way with a total of 291,
six strokes ahead of Monmouth (297) while Robert Morris (303),
Fairfield (305) and Fairleigh Dickinson (307) round out the Top-5
teams in the 11-team field. Mount St. Mary's sits in seventh place
with a score of 310 and the Mount's "B" team is eighth with a total
of 316.
Mount St.
Mary's concludes the fall slate with the final round of the Mount
St. Mary's Fall Classic on Tuesday.
