TOWNSHIP, Pa. Brandon Powers (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) finished
19th to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a 10th-place
standing after the first round at the Holiday Inn Pittsburgh
Airport Colonial Golf Classic on Tuesday.
Powers
carded a 77 on the first day and a 78 in the final round for a
two-round total of 155 to place 19th, 10 strokes behind the
medalist
Jeff
Kingsbury (North Beach, Md./Northern) (41st place, 162), Ray Hyre
(Bowie, Md./Bowie) (41st place, 162), Steve Crain (Wellsville, Pa./Northern
York) (46th place, 165) and Danny Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount
St. Joseph) (46th place, 165) rounded out the Mount's
competitors.
Clarion
won the invitational in 12-team field with a score of 601, three
strokes ahead of IUPUI (604) while Robert Morris (610), Fairfield
(619) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (620) round out the Top-5 teams. The
Mount carded a 319 in the first round and a 322 in the final round
to finish in 10th place with a total of 641. The invitational was
played at the Montour Heights Country Club, which was voted as one
of the 50 toughest courses in the United States by Golf Digest in 2007.
Mount
St. Mary's returns to action in the last event of the fall when the
squad hosts the Mount St. Mary's Fall Invitational on Oct. 27-28 at
the Quail Valley Golf Course in Littlestown, Pa.
