TOWNSHIP, Pa. Brandon Powers (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) finished
12th to power the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a fifth-place
standing after the first round at the Holiday Inn Pittsburgh
Airport Colonial Golf Classic on Monday.
Powers
posted a 39 on the first nine holes and a 38 on the back nine to
end the first round with a 77 in 12 place, five strokes behind the
current leader.
Steve
Crain (Wellsville, Pa./Northern York) (23rd place, 80), Ray Hyre
(Bowie, Md./Bowie) (29th place, 81), Danny Michalek (Mount Airy,
Md./Mount St. Joseph) (29th place, 81) and Jeff Kingsbury (North
Beach, Md./Northern) (39th place, 83) rounded out the Mount's
competitors.
Clarion
leads the 12-team field with a score of 302, one stroke ahead of
IUPUI (303) while Robert Morris (306), Fairfield (312) and the
Mount (319) round out the Top-5 teams. The invitational is being
played at the Montour Heights Country Club, which was voted as one
of the 50 toughest courses in the United States by Golf Digest in 2007.
Mount
St. Mary's returns to action in the final round of the Holiday Inn
Pittsburgh Airport Colonial Golf Classic on Tuesday.
