State College, Pa. (November 9, 2018)--The Mount St. Mary's men's cross country team finished in 14th place today (out of 24) at the NCAA Mid Atlantic Regional hosted by Penn State University The women's team finished 22nd in the field of 30 teams,
The Mountaineer men's team, fresh off of winning its first Northeast Conference championship since 1998, finished 14th in the field of 24 teams with 354 points. Princeton took home the team title, followed by Villanova, Georgetown, Penn and Penn State. The Mount finished ahead of Lehigh, Rutgers, Saint Francis U, American, Rider, Marshall, Lafayette, NJT, Seton Hall and Loyola (Md.).
Nicolas Fransham was the Mount's top finisher at the meet, finishing 27th overall in the field of 168 runners with a time of 32:00 for the 10-kilometer course. Will Merritt finished 52nd overall (32:38) with Isaac Kole placing 70th (32:53). Benjamin Finnigan (92nd, 33:10), Mitchel Wileczek (125th, 34:07) and Kevin Dorsey (150th, 35:10) rounded out the Mount's runners at the meet.
The Mountaineer women's cross country team finished 22nd in the field of 30 teams on Friday. Erin Jaskot was the Mount's top runner at the meet, finishing 46th overall in the field of 205 runners with a time of 22:13 for the six-kilometer course. Maddie Kole finished 75th overall with a time of 22:46, with Ashleigh Kocher (145th, 23:52), Clarke Hooper (156th, 24:05) and Alexandra Kay (191st, 25:14) rounding out the Mount's five runners. The Mount finished in fourth place at the NEC Championships this year.
