Lewisburg, Pa. (September 7, 2018) - The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team advanced seven to the next round at the Bucknell Invitational on Friday. The Mountaineers will have four competing in the next round in singles competition and three duos competing in the next round of doubles competition.
In flight one of singles action, defending flight champion Alexa Quintanilla topped Samantha Snyder of Lafayette in two sets, 6-4, 6-2, as she advanced to the Quarterfinals. Hannah Davis advanced to the Quarterfinals of the singles second flight after a nail biter against Loyola's Chloe Boustany. The Mount junior edged Boustany, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8, in three sets. Sophomore Megan Smith downed Loyola's Brook Santoriello, 6-1, 6-4, to move on to the Quarterfinals of the number three singles flight. With the shortened draw in flight four, senior Emma Blake advanced to the Semifinals after she blanked McQueary Simon of Lafayette 6-0, 6-0.
The Mount advanced three doubles teams on day one, one from the number one flight and two from the number two flight. In flight one, the duo of Quintanilla and freshman Taylor Cook moved on to the Quarterfinals on an opening round bye. In flight two, Blake and sophomore Mia Pittman teamed for a 7-5 win while Davis and Smith posted a 6-0 victory.
The second day of the tournament will be played today, September 8.
