Smithfield, R.I. (October 6, 2019)--Mount St. Mary's earned a 1-1 tie at Bryant in Northeast Conference action on Sunday afternoon. Freshman Kalli Bell's first career goal provided the Mountaineer offense in the game.
Bell won a ball in the midfield, dribbled toward the Bryant goal, and scored on a shot to the upper left corner of the goal from about 25 yards out to give the Mount the lead. The Mountaineers were able to maintain the advantage at the half.
Bryant (5-3-3, 3-0-2 NEC) put the pressure on in the second half and finally evened the score in the 69th minute when Eleni Spiratos beat Mount keeper Maggie Barron. Just over three minutes later, Barron came up big for the Mount with a stop on an Amanda Spitaleri penalty kick to keep the game tied, 1-1. Barron made three more saves in regulation to keep the game tied.
The Mountaineers had all three saves in the overtime periods, including a Jasmine McCree shot in the 92nd minute that was turned away by Bryant keepe Meghan Dalton. Maddie Tchou had the final shot of the game, but saw her shot go high with just under three minutes left.
Bryant held a 28-to-8 shot advantage in the game, including a 19-to-1 margin in the second half. Barron made 11 saves for the Mount in the game while Dalton had one save for the Bulldogs.
