Emmitsburg, Md. (September 5, 2019)--Mount St. Mary's fell to Campbell, 3-0, in women's soccer action at Waldron Family Stadium on Thursday night. Goalkeepers Charlotte Elrod and Maggie Barron combined for eight saves in the game for the Mountaineers.
In a tight first half, the each team had several good scoring opportunities to take the lead. Elrod made a brilliant save in the fourth minute on a shot by Campbell's Rosie O'Neal to keep the game scoreless. The Mount had a great scoring chance in the 18th minute when Jaylyn Chandler fired a shot that saw Campbell keeper Reaghan Duval get a piece off to send the ball off the left post. In the 22nd minute, Elisabeth Rockhill blasted a shot from just outside the penalty box that caromed off the post as well.
The Camels (2-1-1) then broke out on top with a goal in the 28th minute. Kaie Lockwood sent a ball into the right side of the box that Jessica Donald was able to make a sliding pass to the middle to Ashleigh Harris, who put the shot home for a 1-0 advantage. The score remained 1-0 at the half with Campbell holding a 10-to-6 edge in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Campbell took control of the game from the start of the second half, maintaining possession before striking for a pair of goals over a three-minute stretch. In the 57th minute, Alexa Genas sent a throught ball to Lockwood, who was sent in alone on Barron. Lockwood touched the ball past Barron to extend Campbell's lead to 2-0. In the 60th minute, the same duo struck again for Campbell as Genas sent another long ball that put Lockwood alone on goal again. Lockwood drilled a shot to the upper left part of the net this time to push the Campbell lead to 3-0.
Campbell held an 18-to-9 advantage in shots in the game and a 7-0 margin in corner kicks. Elrod made five saves in the first half for the Mount while Barron made three saves in the second stanza. Duval made five saves in 80:30 of action for Campbell with Natalya Marcove finishing the final 9:30 of the game. Rockhill led the Mount with five shots while Chandler had three. Lockwood finished with two goals and an assist for Campbell.
The Mount is back in action on Sunday with a 5:00 p.m. game at Penn.
