MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's split a pair of Northeast Conference matchups last weekend to move to 1-1-2 in NEC play and 2-7-3 overall. The Mount opened the weekend with a 2-0 home win over Robert Morris on Friday before falling 1-0 to defending NEC champion Saint Francis U on the road on Sunday. Kayla Hughes leads the Mount with four goals and eight points while Maddie Tchou is second on the team with three goals and seven points. Maggie Barron has a 0.92 goals against average and a .800 save percentage in eight starts in the goal.
ABOUT SACRED HEART: Sacred Heart entered Friday's game against Wagner with a 2-11-0 overall record and a 1-3-0 mark in the Northeast Conference. Alex Mesropyan leads the team with three goals and seven points while three others have a pair of goals. Nicole Sambuco has started 10 games in goal, posting a 1.84 goals against average and a .779 save percentage on the year.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Sacred Heart holds a 14-5-1 lead in the all-time series that began in 1998. The Pioneers have won the past two meetings, including a 1-0 victory last year in Fairfield, Conn. The Mount's last win over the Pioneers was a 2-1 victory on the road in 2015. The Mount is 1-7-1 over its past nine matchups with the Pioneers.
LAST YEAR'S MATCHUP: Kim McNally's second half tally propelled Sacred Heart to a 1-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's University in Northeast Conference women's soccer action on Friday afternoon. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half of play despite a couple chances from both sides. Kayla Hughes fired a pair of shots on goal in the period for the Mountaineers. The game remained scoreless well into the second frame until the 71st minute of play when McNally netted her second goal of the season. NEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mount St. Mary's sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Barron was named the Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Barron recorded her first clean sheet of the season in a 2-0 win over Robert Morris last Friday before stopping eight of nine shots in a 1-0 loss to defending NEC champion Saint Francis U on Sunday. For the week, Barron had a 0.50 goals against average and a 0.923 save percentage, making 12 saves with just one goal allowed in the two games. For the season, Barron has a 0.92 GAA and a .800 save percentage while going 2-3-3 in eight games. She has been even better in NEC play with a 0.68 GAA and a .870 save percentage in four starts.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE: The Mount then heads on the road for a two-game trip at Central Connecticut (Oct. 19) and Wagner (Oct. 21).
