MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team begin the 27th season in program history at American on August 16.  The Mount roster features seven seniors, including Second Team All-Northeast Conference selection Jenna West, who led the Mount with five goals and five assists in 2017.  Fellow seniors Nikki Pinto, Bianca Gillman, Kayla Hughes, Lauren Bogardus, Sarah Harmon and Gianna Pomykacz are looking to help lead the Mount toward the top of the NEC standings.

ABOUT AMERICAN:  American went 2-15 overall and 1-8 in the Patriot League last season.  Kira Flaherty led the team with a pair of goals last year.  Ryleigh Brown played in 14 games with 11 starts in goal, posting a 1.81 goals against average and a .733 save percentage.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH AMERICAN:  This will be the 21st all-time meeting between the Mount and American with the Eagles holding a 16-3-1 advantage in the all-time series.  The Mountaineers won the last matchup, 2-1 in overtime, on August 28, 2016, at the Mount's Waldron Family Stadium.  The Mount is 0-10-1 all-time on the road against American.

ABOUT OLD DOMINION:  Old Dominion posted its best season since 2008 last year, going 9-5-4 overall and 6-2-2 in Conference USA.  The Monarchs are picked to finish fourth in this year's C-USA preseason poll.  The Monarchs are led by Iris Achterhof, who was named to the preseason All C-USA team.  Achterhof led ODU with 17 points (5g, 7a) as a junior in 2017.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH OLD DOMINION:  This will be the first-ever meeting between the Mount and Old Dominion.

TORI KRAUSE MAKING COACHING DEBUT:  Tori Krause will be making her head coaching debut for the Mountaineers at American on August 16th.  Krause, who is one of the youngest head coaches in the country at 26 years old, was an assistant coach at the Mount last season.   The eighth head coach in program history, Krause worked as the director of performance analysis at the University of North Carolina in 2016 after serving as a volunteer assistant with the Tar Heels the previous two seasons.  Krause played at Davidson, graduating in 2014.

CAPTAINS:  Lauren Bogardus, Charlotte Elrod, Bianca Gillman, Gianna Pomykacz and Jenna West will serve as the Mount's captains in 2018.

A LOOK BACK AT 2017:  The Mountaineers posted a 5-12-1 overall record and a 2-6 mark in the Northeast Conference last season.  Jenna West was the leading scorer with five goals and five assists for 15 points.  Kayla Hughes added three goals while Jaylyn Chandler and Marcella Fegler each had a pair of tallies.  In goal, Maggie Barron started 15 games, posting a 1.70 goals against average and a .648 save percentage.  Charlotte Eldrod made three starts last year with a 2.57 GAA and a .667 save percentage.  West was named Second Team All-NEC while Barron was a member of the All-Rookie team.

PRESEASON PREDICTIONS:  The Mountaineers were picked ninth in the annual Northeast Conference preseason coaches poll that was released on Monday.  Two-time defending champion Saint Francis U is the preseason favorite.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE:  The Mountaineers play at Penn on Friday, August 24, at 7:00 p.m. before heading home to face Howard on Friday, August 31, at 4:00 p.m., for the home opener.
