Somerset, N.J. (November 2, 2017) – Mount St. Mary's University junior midfielder Jenna West was named to the All-Northeast Conference Second Team, and redshirt freshman goalie Maggie Barron collected All-Rookie Team honors as the NEC announced its end-of-the-season awards at the women's soccer banquet on Thursday night.
West played in all 18 games for the Mountaineers on the season, registering team-highs with 15 points, five goals and five assists. The midfielder's five helpers put her in a tie for fifth place in program history for most in a season, and her 15 points were tied for ninth-most in a season. West, who ranked among the top-eight in the conference in all three scoring categories and led the league in shots, netted two goals apiece in the team's victories over Howard and Hampton in late August. The junior also registered assists in both of the Mount's conference wins, coming against Central Connecticut and Wagner.
Barron stepped into the starting role in net during her first season with the Mountaineers, making 15 starts and posting a 1.70 goals against average and .648 save percentage with 46 total saves. The netminder was tied for sixth in the conference with three shutouts on the year, including in conference victories over Central Connecticut and Wagner.
West and Barron helped lead the Mount to five wins during the 2017 campaign, including a pair in conference play.
