Mount St. Mary's Women's Soccer Falls at No. 16 Rutgers

August 31, 2017 -- Mount St. Mary's University fell at 16th-ranked Rutgers by a 7-0 final on Thursday night at Yurcak Field in non-conference women's soccer action.

Nicole Whitley got Rutgers on the board early in the contest, registering her first goal of the season to give the Scarlet Knights the 1-0 advantage in the fourth minute.

Amirah Ali added to the lead in the 17th minute, heading one past goalie Maggie Barron from six yards out off a cross from Kenie Wright.

Ali struck again just three minutes later with her second tally of the game on a shot into the right corner, padding the Scarlet Knights' lead to 3-0. Colby Ciarrocca picked up the assist on the play.

Just over a minute later, Whitley fired a shot from over 30 yards out into the upper 90 for her second goal of the contest.

Brittany LaPlant and Carina Hendley added goals before the half to send Rutgers into the break with a 6-0 advantage.

Brianna Starr netted the game's lone second-half goal as Rutgers closed out the 7-0 victory and remained undefeated, moving to 4-0 on the year. Following the loss, the Mount dropped to 3-2 overall.

Casey Murphy earned the win in goal for Rutgers, posting her fourth shutout in as many games. Barron, who transfered from Rutgers prior to the season, took the loss in net for the Mount.

Mount St. Mary's had 10 shots in the contest, including seven in the second half. Jenna West led the squad with four shots total and two on target.
