Somerset, N.J. (April 29, 2019) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse goalie Jillian Petito has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Defensive Player of the Week, and midfielder Jordan Groover has been tabbed the Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Petito continued her dominant season between the pipes for the Mountaineers, helping them clinch the NEC Regular Season Title and home field in the playoffs with victories of Sacred Heart and LIU Brooklyn this weekend. The net minder made 10 saves and registered a .625 save percentage while yielding just six goals in a victory over SHU on Friday. She followed it up with a seven-save effort to go along with five ground balls and three caused turnovers on Sunday in a win over LIU. Petito, who ranks second in the nation in both save percentage and goals against average, currently sits in second place on the Mount's all-time list for career wins (29) and third in saves (480).
Groover was pivotal for the Mountaineers on the attacking end and in the draw circle in the team's pair of victories over the weekend. The rookie combined for four goals, three assists, 11 draw controls and four ground balls in the two wins. One of Groover's top games of the year came in the regular season finale on Sunday, as she matched her career-high with four points on three goals and one helper, while also tying her career-high with seven draws.
