Somerset, N.J. (April 30, 2018) – Mount St. Mary's University junior goalie Jillian Petito was tabbed the Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, as she collected the honor for the second time this season.
Petito, who ranks second in the nation in save percentage (.561), fourth in goals against average (8.51), and seventh in saves per game (11.00), was stellar in goal once again for the Mountaineers, helping lead them to victories over Central Connecticut and Bryant while yielding just 11 goals combined in the pair of contests. Petito made six saves and gave up just five goals on Friday to help the Mount clinch a berth in the NEC Playoffs. She followed it up with a 14-save performance and a .700 save percentage on Sunday against Bryant, as she and the Mount defense held the league's top scoring offense off the board for the final 37-plus minutes of the contest.
Petito and the Mountaineers head to Smithfield, R.I. to take on Bryant once again in a Northeast Conference Semifinal matchup on Thursday, May 3 at 1 p.m.
