Mount St. Mary’s Women’s Lacrosse Faces Longwood on Saturday

The Mountaineers enter Saturday's contest on a two-game winning streak after downing Army (14-10) and Presbyterian (16-0) this past week to improve to 3-1 on the year. Sophomore Carly Miller (10g, 6a) and junior Taylor Carhart (10g, 2a) are the team's top-two scorers through the opening four games. Goalie Jillian Petito ranks second in the NEC with a .571 save percentage and a 6.75 goals against average.

The win over Presbyterian on Wednesday was the team's third shutout in program history, as Petito went the distance and posted an eight-save performance to collect the win and her first career shutout. Six different Mountaineers, including Miller (2g, 2a), Marley Heller (2g, 2a) and Emily Davis (3g, 1a), posted multi-goal performance in the tilt. The 16-goal win was the Mount's largest margin of victory since an 18-0 shutout win over Delaware State in 2013.

The Lancers opened the season with a 13-12 victory over Lafayette before dropping games to George Washington, William & Mary, George Mason and VCU to fall to 1-4 overall. Longwood is averaging 8.80 goals per contest, led by Riley Dolan (8g, 8a) and Madison Stair (11g, 2a). Imani West owns a .432 save percentage and 16.10 goals against average in five games played.

Longwood has topped the Mount in each of the past two seasons to move to 5-3 in the all-time series. The two teams met in the season opener last year, with Longwood coming out on top by a 13-10 margin. Kate Kinsella led the Mountaineers with four points (3g, 1a) in the contest, and Carly Miller added three (2g, 1a).

The Mount is back in action for a home game against Lehigh on Friday, March 9 at 3 p.m.
