Mount Bowling Preps for Challenge at Stallings Invitational

Mount Bowling Preps for Challenge at Stallings Invitational

Friday, November 15 – Sunday, November 17

Greensboro, North Carolina | AMF All-Star Lanes

In what amounts to their toughest competition to date, the No. 21 Mount St. Mary's bowling team will be one of seven ranked National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) teams at the inaugural Vernell Stallings Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T State University.

The Mount is seeking their fourth trophy finish this season. The team has so far earned runners-up finishes at the Bud Whitman Memorial in October and the Virginia Union Invitation in November, and a victory by the USBC squad in a meet at State College, Pa.

Last week, in the first Northeast Conference (NEC) Meet of the season, the Mount went 3-3 in a tournament filled with grueling matchups. As a result the Mountaineers are currently tied for fourth in NEC play.

Sophomore Rebecca Dodson led the way, earning the conference's Bowler of the Week award in the process.

Quint Baker play takes place on Friday, and all teams will play five matches. Traditional matches will occur on Saturday, with six total matches that spill over into Sunday. The last day will finish with best-of-seven Baker play to determine final placements.

A challenging field await the Mountaineers this weekend. Included are two top ten squads – No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore and the hosts North Carolina A&T at No. 8. Lincoln Memorial, ranked No. 13, will be competing, along with No. 15 Delaware State, No. 17 Louisiana Tech, and No. 19 UAB.

Additional competitors include Prairie View A&M, who received votes in the NTCA poll, and Howard, who has proven to be a formidable foe for the Mount this year.

After the Stallings Invitational, the calendar will flip to December and the second NEC meet. That tournament will place in York, Pa. December 7th and 8th.
