RADFORD, Va. (Nov. 26, 2019) - A strong third quarter propelled the Mount St. Mary's women's basketball team to a 75-58 victory Tuesday over the Radford Highlanders. With the win the Mount improves to 3-3 on the season and extends their winning streak to two games.
Six Mountaineers posted in double figures, led by 14 from Aryna Taylor and 13 from Michaela Harrison. Kendall Bresee fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine boards, along with six assists to lead the game. Jatarrikah Settle and Rebecca Lee added 11 points each, and Taylor Addison contributed 10. The Mount shot over 50 percent for the game (28-54) and hit seven treys while outrebounding Radford 35-30. In addition to Bresee, Lee and Settle were big factors in the rebounding game. Lee registered seven boards while Settle tallied six.
Mount St. Mary's outscored Radford 19-7 in the third frame, including a 9-0 run at the start. The Highlanders were held off the scoreboard until the 5:04 mark as the Lee and Bresee combo drove up the score for the Mountaineers. Free throws down the stretch increased the lead to 59-42 by quarter's end.
The outburst of the third quarter was spearheaded by a 9-3 run at the end of the first half. Two triples by Taylor and one by Harrison in the final two minutes of the second quarter turned a one point deficit into a five point lead at the break. Radford's only leads came in the opening minute of the game and a brief stretch in the second quarter.
Hot shooting was consistent throughout the contest for the Mount, who also scored 20 points in the first quarter and another 16 in the fourth to ice the game.
The Mountaineers return to game action December 6th at home against the Loyola Greyhounds.
