Somerset, N.J. (January 30, 2019) – Mount St. Mary's senior guard Juliette Lawless has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Player of the Week, and freshman guard Michaela Harrison has earned Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Lawless led the Mountaineers to a pair of home wins over LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn this past week to help stretch the Mount's win streak to three straight and make it four wins in the last five contests. Lawless averaged 23.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists while shooting 51.7 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from downtown. The senior tallied 18 points, six rebounds and five assists in the team's 61-45 triumph over LIU on Saturday, before following it up with a 28-point performance to go along with seven boards and five helpers in Monday's 78-75 victory over the Terriers. Lawless, who has tallied nine 20-plus point performances on the season, is tied for second in the conference with 18.7 points per contest.
Harrison claimed her second straight NEC Rookie of the Week Award and her league-high fourth overall this season after averaging 16.0 points and 2.5 assists in victories over LIU and St. Francis Brooklyn. Harrison accounted for 17 points, three assists, and two steals in Saturday's win against LIU, and two days later the rookie put up a 15-point effort in the team's close victory over St. Francis. Harrison ranks 10th overall in the conference and leads all rookies this season with 11.8 points per game.
The Mountaineers return to action this Saturday, February 2 with a home game against Saint Francis U at 1 p.m. The tilt will be streamed live on ESPN3.com
