Emmitsburg, Md. (February 27, 2017) – St. Francis Brooklyn knocked down 10 three-pointers en route to a 71-55 victory over Mount St. Mary's University on Monday night at Knott Arena in the women's basketball regular season finale.
The Mount closes out the regular season at 12-17 overall and 10-8 in conference play after winning seven of its last nine games. The Mountaineers will be the No. 5 seed in the NEC playoffs, and will head to fourth-seeded Bryant for a quarterfinal matchup on Sunday, March 5.
St. Francis Brooklyn (8-21, 6-12 NEC) hit four three-pointers in the opening quarter while holding the Mount to just four points on 2-of-11 shooting to jump out to an 18-4 advantage. The Mountaineers were held off the board for the final 8:17 of the first period.
A jumper from Alexis Carter at the 8:15 mark of the second quarter broke an 11-minute scoreless drought for the Mount. The Terriers responded with a three from Alex Delaney and a jumper from Olivia Levey to open their largest lead to that point, 25-6, midway through the second.
The Mountaineers fought back over the final six-plus minutes of the half, propelled by an 11-4 run. Ashlee White fueled the rally with eight of the 11 points, and Kayla Agentowicz capped it off with a layup in transition, bringing the Mount within 12 with just over a minute to play in the frame.
After a layup on the other end from Lorraine Hickman, Katrice Dickson knocked down a pair from the line to close out the half, cutting the Terrier lead to 31-19.
The Mount was held scoreless for the opening four-plus minutes of the third quarter as St. Francis Brooklyn built its lead to 22 points at the 5:47 mark. The Terriers opened their largest advantage of the contest, 50-22, just over two minutes later.
The Terriers held a 20-plus point advantage throughout most of the fourth, and closed out the 71-55 win for their sixth conference victory as they earned the No. 7 seed in the playoffs.
Four St. Francis Brooklyn players reached double-figures in the contest, led by 18 from Delaney. Levey added 16 points, Rachel Iozzia registered 15 and Maria Palarino chipped in with 12.
For the Mount, White led the way with 18 points, while Agentowicz added 11 and Mikal Johnson netted nine to go along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
