Mount Women’s Basketball Announces 2017-18 Recruiting Class

Emmitsburg, Md. (December 5, 2016) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's basketball team has announced its recruiting class for the 2017-18 season, which is ranked among the top-67 classes in the nation by BlueStar report and the No.1 class in the Northeast Conference by The Collegiate Girls Basketball Report for the second straight year. Bridget Birkhead (Yardley, Pa.), Rebecca Lee (Severn, Md.), Hunter Rowson (Upper Marlboro, Md.), Jatarrikah "JT" Settle (Odenton, Md.), Daly Sullivan (South Bend, Ind.) and Aryna Taylor (Ashland, Va.) make up the six-player class for Head Coach Bryan Whitten and his staff.

"We are extremely excited about this year's recruiting class," said Whitten. "We feel they will add a great deal of versatility to our program. Each brings a high motor, a desire for self-improvement, and a winning attitude. Culture is so important, and these six young women bring a positive, hard-working, energetic and enthusiastic mentality to our program. They've all been successful at the high school and AAU level, so they know what it takes to win. More importantly, they are outstanding young women.  Recruiting good people is a priority, and we've added some outstanding people who will not only contribute greatly to our basketball program, but will enhance and add value to our campus community.  Academically, athletically, and socially, we feel fortunate to welcome these young women to our Mount family."

"Coach Bryan Whitten and his staff at Mount St. Mary's have put together a class that will put them in contention for years to come in the very competitive Northeast Conference," commented Kevin Lynch, national talent evaluator at The Blue Star Report. "Coach Whitten has added size, athleticism and shooting in this large six-player class that is ranked as an Honorable Mention of all the Division I schools in America by the country's most respected scouting company, The Blue Star Report. The players were all plucked from highly respected AAU programs, including the PA Comets (Bridget Birkhead), two from Team Maryland (Rebecca Lee and JT Settle), the Germantown Lady Panthers MD (Hunter Rowson) and Crossover Hoops VA (Aryna Taylor). The jewel of this class is Indiana's Daly Sullivan, a guard from Sky Diggs Elite AAU who can score from anywhere on the court. Sullivan's creative ability and shooting stroke will provide NEC opponents nightmares."

"Sullivan is the marquee player of the class and the Northeast Conference," said Dan Olson, director of Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and espnW HoopGurlz. "She's a proven back court prospect that gives the Mount a guard that can step in as a rookie and impact the league […] Guard play is the key to success for the Mount, and Whitten gained quality, fundamental prospects that fit the system."
