2016-17 Women's Basketball Schedule | Breakdown of Non-Conference Opponents

Emmitsburg, Md. (Sept. 13, 2016) –
The Mount St. Mary's University women's basketball team announced its schedule for the 2016-17 season on Tuesday. The Mount's slate includes 14 home games, and its road schedule is highlighted by contests at Pittsburgh, Maryland and West Virginia.

The season opener is set for November 12 at Pittsburgh as the Mountaineers will face the Panthers for the seventh time in the last eight seasons, before returning to Emmitsburg for their home opener against Morgan State on November 15.

The Mount heads to College Park to take on Maryland on November 18 prior to its lone non-conference home stand featuring games against Fairfield (Nov. 20), Lehigh (Nov. 22) and Coppin State (Nov. 30) at Knott Arena.

On December 3, Mount St. Mary's heads to Loyola to take on the in-state rival Greyhounds for the 38th time in series history. The Mount owns a 23-14 advantage in the all-time series, including an 8-7 mark on Loyola's home court.

The Mount hosts its final non-conference home game on December 7 against UMES before embarking on a three-game road trip to wrap up the non-conference slate, with games at Howard (Dec. 10), William & Mary (Dec. 18) and West Virginia (Dec. 21).

Mount St. Mary's begins its 18-game Northeast Conference schedule at LIU Brooklyn on December 29.

The Mount returns 10 players from last year's squad including senior guard Alexis Carter, a 2016 All-Northeast Conference selection who led the team in points (12.8), rebounds (7.0) and steals (1.9) per game. Also returning are guards Katrice Dickson and Kayla Bates, who finished fifth and sixth on the team in scoring, respectively, in 2015-16.

Bryan Whitten, entering his 10th season at the helm of the program, brought in four players as part of this year's recruiting class. Guards Kayla Agentowicz and Ashlee White, who both ranked among the top-81 recruits in the country for their position in this year's class, join transfer guard Mikal Johnson and center Katrina Scheuvront for their first season with the Mount. Coach Whitten on the 2016-17 Schedule

"We are excited about the schedule again this year. Obviously we have stretched ourselves and look forward to the challenge of playing Pitt, Maryland, and West Virginia. Also, playing five local opponents (Morgan State, Coppin State, UMES, Loyola, and Howard) provides great regional rivalries and competition. We have also renewed old rivalries with Lehigh, Fairfield, and William & Mary. I think our schedule provides us great preparation for our always tough Northeast Conference slate. Having our team playing at its best come the end of December is our goal as we look to compete for an NEC Championship."
