Chickey Scores Team-High 16, but Mount Women’s Basketball Falls at Bryant

Smithtown, R.I. (February 20, 2016) – Senior Jody Chickey scored a team-high 16 points, but Mount St. Mary's women's basketball dropped an 86-52 decision at Bryant on Saturday afternoon at The Chace Athletic Center.

Chickey notched her fourth double-digit scoring performance of the season and also added four steals to pace the Mount. Junior Alexis Carter registered 10 points as she reached double-figures for the 12th time in her last 13 games.

Bryant shot 64-perecent from the filed in the contest, led by Breanna Rucker, who went 7-for-9 as she tallied 21 points and 10 assists. Alex Klein added 18 points, and two other Bulldogs also chipped in with double-digit points. Guard Kierra Palmer registered 14 assists in the contest.

Bryant scored 23 points in each of the first two quarters to jump out to a 46-23 lead at the halftime break. The Bulldogs missed just eight shots in the first half as they shot 69.2-percent from the floor.

The Mountaineers climbed back in the third period, outscoring Bryant by a 19-11 margin behind five points from Chickey and four from Carter. The Mount headed into the final quarter of play trailing by 15, 57-42.

Mount St. Mary's scored the opening basket of the fourth frame, but the Bulldogs responded with 16 straight points over a five-minute stretch to extend their lead to 73-44 with just under four minutes remaining.

Bryant closed out the game in the final minutes to earn the 86-52 victory for their 12th conference win.

The Mountaineers continue their road trip on Monday (February 22) with a contest at Central Connecticut at 7 p.m. The Mount looks to complete the season sweep of the Blue Devils after topping them by a 54-48 final earlier this season.
