Blacksburg, Va. (December 19, 2015) – Mount St. Mary's University women's basketball fell at Virginia Tech, 59-42, on Saturday afternoon at Cassell Coliseum. Sarafina Arthur-Williams and Jessica Harris led the Mountaineers with nine points each.
Hannah Young topped all scorers in the contest with 15 points to pace Virginia Tech, while the Hokies' leading scorer, Vanessa Panousis, added 12 points.
The Mountaineers trailed by double digits early in the second quarter, but Harris rattled off five straight points for Mount St. Mary's on a three-pointer followed by a steal and fast-break layup, as the sophomore cut the Mount's deficit to 30-16 at the 7:24 mark.
Virginia Tech responded and was able to push its lead to 38-19 heading into the halftime break. Harris and Arthur-Williams paced the Mount's offense with a combined 14 points in the half.
Mount St. Mary's outscored Virginia Tech by a 15-9 margin in the fourth quarter, but the Hokies held off the Mountaineers for their 10th victory of the season.
The Mount is back in action on Tuesday, December 29 for a home game against Niagara. Tip-off from Knott Arena is set for 2 p.m.
