Emmitsburg, Md. (December 12, 2015) – Mount St. Mary's University women's basketball dropped a 62-49 decision to Howard on Saturday afternoon at Knott Arena. Sophomore Katrice Dickson and senior Sarafina Arthur-Williams paced the Mount with 24 points combined.
Dickson and Arthur-Williams dropped 12 points apiece and senior Alexis Carter chipped in with 11 to lead the Mountaineer offense on the day.
Victoria Gonzales and Sydni Johnson scored 54 of the Bison's 62 points in the contest. Gonzales posted a game-high 33 points on 15-of-24 shooting.
Howard (2-9) jumped out to a 13-8 lead at the 2:18 mark of the first period before Mount St. Mary's went on a 9-0 run to close out the quarter. Carter propelled the rally with a pair of jumpers and a three-pointer to cap it off.
Midway through the second frame, Mount St. Mary's (2-7) held a 21-17 lead, but Howard scored the final 18 points of the quarter to head into the break with a 35-21 advantage.
Mount St. Mary's (2-7) battled back in the fourth quarter and was able to cut the Bison lead to nine, 58-47, with 2:25 remaining, but Howard held off the Mountaineers' comeback to earn its second win of the season.
The Mount hits the road for a battle with Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. next Saturday, December 19, with tip-off set for 3 p.m.
