Mount Women’s Basketball Falls at Campbell, 62-53

Buies Creek, N.C. (November 21, 2015) – Campbell was able to hold off a late fourth-quarter comeback by Mount St. Mary's, topping the Mountaineers by a final of 62-53 in non-conference women's basketball action Saturday Afternoon at Gore Arena.

Trailing by 14 early in the final quarter, Mount St. Mary's battled back and trimmed the deficit to seven, 55-48, at the media timeout following three-pointers from Jessica Harris and Alexis Carter.

After trading buckets, Carter knocked down a pull-up jumper to bring the Mount within four points, 57-53, with just 1:46 remaining in the contest. RaeChaun Edwards responded with a pair of free throws at the 1:10 mark to extend the Camels' lead to 59-53, and Caroline Bowns hit a three-pointer with 20 seconds left to seal the victory for Campbell.

Alexis Carter led the Mount in scoring for the third consecutive game, registering 16 points and seven rebounds. Jessica Harris posted a double-digit scoring performance for the third time in as many games with 11 points, and Jody Chickey added seven points and five assists.

Edwards led all scorers in the contest with 21 points on 7-17 shooting, and Amanda Coffer added a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

The Mount (1-2) trailed 18-9 at the end of the first period, but cut into the deficit with a 7-0 run in the opening minute and a half of the second quarter. A jumper from Katrice Dickson capped the run, cutting the Campbell lead to 18-16 at the 8:33 mark.

Campbell (3-1) responded in the ensuing six-plus minutes of play as the Camels widened the lead to 10 points. Summer Price propelled the Campbell run with eight points during the stretch, including a pair of three-pointers. Jayla Leftwich converted a pair of free throws at the end of the quarter for the Mountaineers to cut the deficit to 36-28 heading into the break.

The Mount heads to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on Bucknell on Tuesday, November 24. Opening tip from Sojka Pavilion is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
