MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount St. Mary's women's basketball team makes its second trip to the state of North Carolina this season to take on the NC State Wolfpack on Saturday at Reynolds Coliseum. Seeking their first road win, the Mountaineers have faced a grueling road schedule that includes the likes of Final Four qualifier Maryland and reigning Atlantic-10 Champion Fordham. The Mount St. Mary's offense is led by a pair of seniors in Jacqueline Brewer and Jenn Carney, who are averaging 12.4 and 11.6 points per game respectively.
LAST TIME OUT: Senior Jacqueline Brewer exploded for a career-high 28 points on 11-for-18 shooting to propel the Mount St. Mary's women's basketball team past visiting Coppin State, 81-65, on Wednesday night at Knott Arena. Fellow senior Jenn Carney added 22 points to give the Mountaineers their second victory this season. The Mount shot 29-for-55 (52.7 percent) from the field, including a 13-for-22 (59.1 percent) clip from distance.
ABOUT NC STATE: Coming off a 25-8 record a year ago in a season that included an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, NC State enters Saturday's showdown with a 6-3 record in 2014-15. After four consecutive wins to open the year, the Wolfpack has gone 2-3 in its last five. The high-scoring duo of Dominique Wilson and Miah Spencer combines for 28.7 points per game, while the team is averaging 70.2 points per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. NC STATE: In the only other meeting between the two schools, NC State handed the Mount an 83-45 loss on Dec. 29, 2004. The game was played as part of a holiday tournament hosted by Saint Peter's in Jersey City, N.J.
MOUNT ST. MARY'S VS. THE ACC: Of the 15 teams that make up the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Mount has faced six of them. The Mount is 1-21 all-time against teams in the current ACC, including a 0-17 mark since moving to Division I in 1988-89 and 0-10 since Bryan Whitten took over the program in 2007-08. The Mount's lone win was a 57-44 victory over Notre Dame on Dec. 19, 1981, at the Penn Holiday Tournament in Philadelphia, Pa.
20-20: In Wednesday's win over Coppin State, seniors Jacqueline Brewer and Jenn Carney posted 28 and 22 points, respectively. It was the first time this season two players have posted 20-plus scoring efforts in the same game for the Mount. Last season, the Mount had three games with two players scoring 20-plus points and one game with three 20-plus scorers.
QUALITY OPPONENTS: Saturday will mark the third game for the Mount versus an NCAA Tournament team from a year ago. So far this season, the Mount has squared off with NCAA Tournament-qualifiers Maryland and Fordham.
