Somerset, N.J. (March 6, 2014) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball senior Sydney Henderson was awarded for her standout season by being voted First Team All-Northeast Conference by the league's coaches, it was announced by the NEC office via Twitter on Thursday.
The senior from Richmond, Va. is the first Mount player to earn First Team All-NEC since Dita Krumberga in 2007. Henderson, who was a Second Team All-NEC selection in 2013, ranks seventh in the conference with 17.4 points per game this season. The versatile guard also leads the NEC with a .388 three-point shooting percentage, while ranking second in minutes per game (36.73), seventh in steals (1.80) and 12th in assists (2.93).
Henderson has scored 20 or more points in 14 games on the year, and she became the 26th player in Mount history to join the 1,000 point club on Nov. 16, 2013 versus IPFW. Currently ranking eighth in school history with 1,446 points, Henderson is one of two players in Mount history with 1,250 career points, 500 rebounds and 250 assists.
It is the 16th time the Mount has had a First Team selection since joining the NEC in 1989-90, and Henderson is the first since Bryan Whitten took over the program before the start of the 2007-08 season.
The Mountaineers play their first home NEC playoff game at Knott Arena since the 2002 season on Sunday, March 9, with the quarterfinals versus Wagner at 2 p.m.
