MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount can move into a tie for second place in the NEC with a win over LIU Brooklyn on Feb. 8. The Mount has won three of its last four overall and has a chance to sweep the Blackbirds for the second season in a row. While Sydney Henderson leads the Mount with 17.8 points per game, four others have also scored 20 or more points in a game this season in Jacqueline Brewer, Kayla Grossett, Ashley Christie and Jenn Carney.
LAST TIME OUT: The Mount cruised to a 69-55 win over Central Connecticut State on Feb. 3 for Head Coach Bryan Whitten's 300th career coaching victory. Offensively, junior Jenn Carney came off the bench to score a career-high 30 points in 28 minutes, while senior Kayla Grossett added 10 points and nine rebounds. The Mount shot 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) from beyond the arc and forced the Blue Devils into 19 turnovers, leading to 18 points on the other end.
ABOUT LIU BROOKLYN: The Blackbirds had lost three in a row before upsetting second-place Sacred Heart, 62-54, on Feb. 4. Currently tied with Central Connecticut for the eighth and final playoff spot, LIU has two of its five wins at home at the Steinberg Wellness Center. LIU, which lost eight in a row to kick off the season, is led by Cleandra Roberts' 18.8 points per game.
LAST TIME VS. LIU BROOKLYN : Jacqueline Brewer's three-pointer with 8.8 seconds left gave the Mount a 63-62 win over LIU Brooklyn at Knott Arena on Jan. 6, 2014. The Mount rallied from a six-point deficit with 1:52 left in the game to earn the victory. Sydney Henderson led the Mount with 14 points, while Cleandra Roberts notched 21 to lead the visiting Blackbirds.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LIU BROOKLYN: The Mount leads the all-time series with LIU Brooklyn, 30-17. The Mount is 13-9 versus the Blackbirds in games played in Brooklyn.
WHITTEN PICKS UP WIN #300: With a convincing 69-55 win over Central Connecticut State at Knott Arena on Feb. 3, Mount Head Coach Bryan Whitten earned his 300th career coaching victory. Prior to beginning at the Mount before the start of the 2007-08 season, Whitten collected 220 victories at Division III King's from 1993-2005.
CARNEY SHINES ON ESPN3: On Feb. 3 versus CCSU in an ESPN3 broadcast, junior guard Jenn Carney tripled her previous career high with 30 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-4 from three-point range. Carney's previous career high was 10 points set against Wagner on Feb. 12, 2013. Carney, who had scored a combined 26 points in NEC play leading up to Feb. 3, became the first Mount player with 30 or more points in a game since Sydney Henderson netted 30 on Nov. 16, 2012 versus Rider.
