Somerset, N.J. (December 23, 2013) – After averaging 24.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two wins during the week, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball senior Sydney Henderson earned Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
The Preseason All-NEC selection lived up to the billing with a pair of standout performances in a 64-61 win over American on Dec. 16 and against UMES on Dec. 21 in an 85-61 victory.
In 40 minutes of action on the road against American, the Richmond, Va. native connected on 11-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-7 from distance for a season-best 28 points. Henderson was two off her career high of 30 points, set against Rider last season. In the three-point victory over the Eagles, the Mount's captain also racked up four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
In front of the home crowd at Knott Arena against UMES, Henderson finished two rebounds shy of a double-double with 20 points and eight rebounds. The Dec. 21 victory marked the seventh time this season Henderson has scored 20 or more points in a game.
Henderson, who increased her scoring average to 19.2 points per game, shares the honor this week with St. Francis Brooklyn's Eilidh Simpson.
Henderson and the Mount conclude non-conference play at Boston College on Jan. 1 at 1 p.m.
