FitzSimons is in his third season as an assistant coach for the Mount's cross country and track and field teams.
In his first three seasons, Fitzsimons has led multiple athletes to all-time top 10 performances at the Mount along with four athletes and a relay qualifying for the IC4A-ECAC Championships. In 2016 he coached an NEC Rookie of the Year and a pair of All-NEC cross country athletes. In the fall of 2018, FitzSimons led the men’s cross country team to its first NEC team title since 1998 with six All-NEC performances on the men's and women's sides. FitzSimons was named the 2018 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
A Villanova University graduate, FitzSimons competed in both cross country and track & field for the Wildcats. As a student-athlete, he was an individual Big East Conference champion in 800m run and earned All-America honors twice as a member of the distance medley relay team. He earned a dual bachelor's degree in communication and sociology.
Prior to his collegiate career, FitzSimons competed for Hamden High School in Connecticut. During his time there, he broke six state records and was the anchor for three national champion relay teams (distance medley and 4x800m).
His brother, Tom, was an NCAA All-American in the decathlon at the Mount. FitzSimons resides in Gettysburg, Pa.
