May 17, 2019--Mount St. Mary's senior Brian Sagendorf has qualified for the 2019 NCAA East Preliminary in the javelin, the third time in his career he has qualified for the event. Sagendorf qualified for the regional on the strength of his season-best throw of 64.40m (211' 3") at the George Mason Spring Invitational. The NCAA East Preliminary will be held May 23-25 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. The top 12 finishers from the 48-member field will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas from June 5-8.
Sagendorf, who won the javelin at this year's Northeast Conference Championships, is returning to the NCAA East Preliminary for the first time since 2016. In 2016, Sagendorf finished 44th at the East Preliminary with a throw of 58.06m (190' 6"). In 2017, he qualified for East Preliminary, but had to miss the event due to an injury that also forced him to miss his entire junior season. He is the Mount's school-record holder with a career-best throw of 65.65m (215' 5") set at the 2016 Penn Relays.
The men's javelin will be held on Friday, May 24, at 12:00 p.m. You can follow Sagendorf's results at the NCAA East Preliminary headquarters.
