The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams open the 2018-19 season at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on March 15-16. The meet will be held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
THE COMPETITION: Teams expected to compete at the meet include Alfred University, American University, Bluffton University, Coastal Carolina University, Coker College, Colgate University, College of Charleston, Concord University, Cuyahoga Community College, Dalton State, Geneva College, Hampton University, Heidelberg University, Indiana University East, Lock Haven University, Marian University, Mount Saint Mary's University, Oglethorpe University, Olivet College, Ohio University, Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club, Piedmont College, Roger Williams University, Rutgers University- Newark, Salem University, Salisbury University, Slippery Rock University, Shawnee State University, St. Augustine's University, St. Leo University, Swarthmore College, The College of Wooster, Tuffs University, UMASS Boston, UMASS Lowell, UNC Asheville, University of Lynchburg, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, University of Mount Olive, University of Pikesville, Westminster College, West Virginia University Track Club, Wheaton College, Wisconsin Lutheran College.
INDOOR RECAP: The Mount women's team captured its first Northeast Conference title in 22 years while the men's team finished in sixth place at the 2019 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships last month. The Mount had four gold medal winners at the meet, including Kayla Barnes (200m dash), Najae Nickerson (60m Hurdles) and the women's 4x400m relay team and the Distance Medley relay team.
INDOOR ALL-EAST HONORS: The Mountaineers had nine athletes earn All-East honors at this year's ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships. Najae Nickerson (60m Hurdles),the women's distance medley relay team of Maddie Kole, Chardane Logan, Clarke Hooper and Erin Jaskot and also the men's distance medley relay team of Isaac Kole, Branden Roach, Brandon Briscoe and Benjamin Finnigan each earned All-East honors at the meet.
LAST TIME AT THE ALAN CONNIE SHAMROCK INVITATIONAL: The Mount last competed at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational last year 2018. Erin Sample finished in second place in the shot put, Kayla Barnes finished third in the 100m dash, the women's 4x400m-relay team finished in third, Justin Kimble finished second in the 100m dash, the men's 4x100-relay team finished sixth and Will Merritt finished ninth in the 3,000m run.
