Mount Indoor Track to Compete in Akron Invitational

The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's indoor track and field teams are back in action at the Akron Invitational.  The meet begins with the discus on Thursday night, and will continue on Friday and Saturday.  The Mount will also be sending athletes to the Susquehanna Challenge on Saturday.

MOUNT UPDATE:  The Mount had athletes compete at both the Liberty Kickoff and the George Mason Patriot Games last week.  At Liberty, Maddie Kole led the Mount's peformances with a second-place finish in the mile run (5:00.72).  For the men, Justin Kimble finished third in the 60m dash (6.86).  Full Release.

LAST YEAR AT AKRON:  The Mount sprinters had a big performance last year at the Akron Invitational.  On the women's side, Kayla Barnes set PR's in both the 60m dash and the 200m dash for the Mountaineers.  She posted a time of 7.71 seconds in the preliminary round of the 60m dash, a personal best mark and the third-best mark in Mount history.  In the 200m, Barnes won the Blue race with a personal-best mark of 24.73 seconds.  For the men, Justin Kimble recorded PR's in both the 60m and 200m dash.  In the 60, he had a time of 6.80 seconds to finish fourth in the Blue race. He then finished in fifth place in the Gold race in the 200m dash with a time of 21.78 seconds.  Full Release.

CHECKING THE NEC LEADERBOARD:  As the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships approach, the Mount has plenty of athletes listed among the top three on the current NEC Performance lists.  Kayla Barnes is second in both the 60m and 200m dash, Maddie Kole is 2nd in the mile and the 3,000m run, Erin Jaskot tops the list in the 3,000m, Najae Nickerson has the top time in the 60m hurdles, Rene Rosso is third in the 60m hurdles and third in the high jump, Rachel Finn second in the pole vault, and Erin Sample third in the shot put.  For the men, Justin Kimble leads the list in the 60m dash.  In addition, both the men's and women's 4x800m relay teams top the NEC performance list while the women's 4x400m relay is third.

UP NEXT:  The Mount will compete at the Navy Select meet on Friday, February 8, before heading to Staten Island, N.Y., on Feb. 15-16 for the 2019 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
