April 17, 2018--Senior Brenden Chavis and freshman Kayla Barnes collected Northeast Conference weekly honors today. Chavis was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week while Barnes earned Women's Rookie of the Week honors.
Chavis took home first place in the weight throw at the Messiah Invitational, breaking the Mount's school record in the process. Chavis recorded a mark of 57.37m (188' 3") to earn his first-place award, and he currently stands in 19th place on the IC4A qualifying list and 59th in the NCAA East Region.
Barnes, who has won three of the season's first four NEC Rookie of the Week awards, accounted for a pair of top eight finishes at the George Mason Spring Invitational. Barnes had a time of 11.95 seconds in the 100m dash to finish in sixth place, and then posted a fourth-place mark in the 200m dash with a time of 24.12. Both times are under the ECAC qualifying standard.
The Mount track and field teams are back in action with a 1:00 p.m. dual meet against Saint Francis U at Morgan Track on campus.
