December 13, 2017--The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's indoor track and field team had a trio of players honored by the Northeast Conference today. D.J. Workcuff was named the NEC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, Christopher Gabor was named the NEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, and Kayla Barnes garnered NEC Rookie of the Week honors.
Workcuff and Gabor competed in the heptathlon at the Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals meet on Friday and Saturday. Workcuff earned NEC Track Athlete of the Week honors for his time in the 60m dash. The senior posted a time of 6.94 seconds in the 60m, the top time in the field of 25 competitors at the meet. It is an IC4A qualifying mark, and moves him into third on the NEC leaderboard this season in the event. Workcuff posted a total of 4,984 ponts to finish in third place in the heptathlon at the meet.
Gabor finished in second place in the heptathlon at Lehigh to garner NEC Field Athlete of the Week honors. The senior tallied 5,022 points to qualify for the IC4A Championships. Gabor topped the field with his performance in the shot put, had the third-best mark in the pole vuault and the sixth-best finish in the long jump. All three of those performances are in the NEC's top 10 in their respective events. His long jump of 6.73m is good for third in the NEC this year.
Barnes kicked off her collegiate career in fine fashion at the Navy Lid Lifter. She finished in second place in the 60m dash at Navy with a time of 7.77 seconds, good for the top spot in the NEC this season and the fifth-best mark in Mount history. She also posted a time of 25.40 seconds in the 200m dash, good for the top spot in the NEC and fourth on the Mount's all-time list.
